The league is losing over $40 million a year, and that is with Caitlyn Clark.

I don’t see this ending well for the players.

What is their true value? I’ve heard they should be paid as much as the men
Where did you hear that?
From the female players.
Less than they’re making now, the league is heavily subsidized and they still lose money every year.
They have never made a profit.
So maybe they need to ask for revenue sharing, then they would have to pay to play.
I honestly don’t know what the answer is. I wouldn’t watch the wbna as it’s not a sport I enjoy.
They always say they should he paid what they are worth but what is that?
I saw one article years ago where they felt they should he paid equal of men but that discounts the revenue difference. Men bring in a lot more revenue
Here is how to do it to make everything fair. Expand the WNBA to thirty-teams, with one WNBA team for each NBA team. Then, have the corresponding WNBA and NBA teams travel together and play each other on the same night in the same arena. Make the fans pay for both games. Make the television networks cover both games and pay for them. Have the playoffs the same way. Then, at the end of the year take all of the revenue and divide it evenly between the WNBA and NBA players.
That way everybody gets their fair share.
(Just in case nobody picked up on it yet, picture a king-sized sarcasm emoticon now.)
I almost finished your post and thought, he’s F’n with us.
Well what is a fair share? Sale of tickets? Sale of merch? They risk nothing, but the owners do.
I’m not trying to be a shit but what is fair? If they didn’t have the wbna, most would be doing what?
We have only one season with Clark and Reese playing. Do you have anything showing they last $40M that season? The ratings increase this year has been huge.
Not to mention the league is 100% fucking up the marketing of Clark.
So what is fair?
IMO, the only real “fair” financial agreement would be to fold the league.
Many teams are owned for vanity reasons.
That’s why I ponder what’s fair. They’re losing money. While there is a surge right now. That doesn’t mean the surge will remain.
I’ve never been to game. Have no plans to go. Evertiime their players talk, it makes me think they’re out of touch and entitled.
I get they want to make more but the market doesn’t seem to support that.
I think profit sharing would be fair but since the league has lot money for years. It’d be years before they turned a profit
If the league were to ever turn a profit, it would have done so by now.
You don’t need to be concerned about that. We always get it.
I just find their expectations a tad odd. Everyone wants to make more but the revenue has to be there.
If the owners were making bank, I’d get the debate around fair but there isn’t a strong market for their product. Otherwise there would he competing leagues for the talent.
Thus the title of the thread.
The players are 100% tone deaf.
The problem is they sound socialist. The fair value of their labor. After this many years. Thats close to zero.
Right now people are subdividing their labor.
While I think sports players are overpaid. They’re paid by the market. People will pay to go to games, buy their shoes, etc.
