Why is democracy bad?

Just curious. When I think of any mob, I don’t think the majority has credibility in making good decisions

For instance what about accusing a person of witchcraft? Just because the majority believes it doesn’t make it accurate.

what are good checks on the presidents power and what are good checks on the people, the courts, the Congress, and the state legislatures?

The average person is an idiot. That’s why our founding fathers didn’t want a democracy.

:slightly_smiling_face: That’s a tad harsh, to what standed are you holding “the average person” to?

You

Would you consider yourself to be average as well?

I almost spit out my coffee!!!

no, but I don’t think a person has to as intelligent as I am to be capable enough to do most things well

I can’t be held liable for the destruction of electronic equipment.

The more time you spend with the average person, the more you understand why the founding fathers didn’t want them voting.

Only 6% of Americans were elegible to vote in our country’s first elections, do you think we should go back to those days?

Yes, and I have said that for years. The common man can’t handle their own affairs much less should they get to vote. It’s why countries are falling apart as we have the average person pushing for bad ideology.

Where and how would you draw the line between the “common man” and people like yourself? And would women and immigrants be able to vote?

The voting age was 21 when I started to vote and it was lowered a few years later to 18 because people who are not eligible eligible to vote we’re being drafted into the army now that we no longer have a draft. I think the voting agent should be
no longer be 18because when I went to college college, most kids were much more mature than they are now

Or maybe even later, science tells us 25 is a more appropriate age to make adult decisions.

People who own property, are citizens and pay federal income tax get to vote.

I think it is ironic we can send you to war to kill at 18 but you can’t have a beer.

That was my pitch to bartentenders when iwas 18, it never worked, I had to go outside to drink… But then there was always the Acey-Ducey Club. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’d agree with that, but I’d include leasehold estate owners as well.

I know it sounds archaic but if you are not paying the bill, you shouldn’t get to expand the bill.

I also think citizenship shouldn’t be given at birth but earned. Robert Heinlein wrote Starship Troopers about this topic. I think he makes a very good point.

We have to many people who are entitled to the wealth of others but have done nothing for this country except take.

You realize Starship Troopers was a satire about a fascist society, right?
