Where would you retire / where is it hell no

I’d like Pennsylvania and North Carolina. Maryland and Florida are like definitely not

Does anyone watch Briggs?

I watch Briggs.

He has some amazing information

On this day is cool too

I’ve lived in Kansas for 37 years and really have no desire to move somewhere where I don’t know anybody.

When I first retired I thought about Texas, around Corpus, but one thing I tried to research was cycling. I could not find a group like I have here - retirees that ride for fun and aren’t out to be late life Tour de France wannabes and I wasn’t able to find any. I do have friends in Dallas but there is not way in hell I’d ever move back to Dallas. I also have some friends in Florida and contemplated that until I read that it is the deadliest state for cyclists. Taxes didn’t play any role since I don’t pay Kansas income tax

We moved to the west coast of Florida a couple years ago in preparation for retirement at the end of this year. So far it has been good, but the summers can definitely be a little warm. When I retire, we will live in Europe for 3 months out of the year and will pursue citizenship through one of the Golden Visa programs. That way, if our country continues its downward slide I have a backup plan.

My requirements to retire are somewhere with mountains and 4 seasons. Cost of living is important but not just for taxes, and access to healthcare is up there. The only ‘hell no’ is California because of ridiculous taxes and rules, and Florida because it’s hot and mostly flat.

Solid plan, I may do something similar.

If Biden steals the election again, will you move to europe full time?

Where are you thinking you’d like to live in Europe?

You might find parts of Europe attractive

Which parts, I’d have to do my research?

Our attitude is that if we were not happy with where we were living, we would move. We’ve looked around, but are still here in NM 25 years after moving from Michigan. NM certainly has its share of things we don’t like, but getting up every morning and seeing mountains that sometime seem like they’re in our front yard and knowing that we could be pretty much away from civilization in less than an hour more than make up for that.

Hell no is some place humid. I live where it’s very hot in summer, but I don’t like humid.

That’s where I’m at, never thought this car or this house will be my last so choose wisely. I make an informed decision based on my needs but willing to pivot if it’s not working out. Think my goal now is to shed unnecessary crap which will make it easier to move if I want to. I’m not opposed to buying another house but not opposed to renting at all.

Normally KC turns every thread political.
Have I ever said anything about the 2020 election being stolen? Remember that I picked Biden to win while you picked Trump.

I could not live in Europe full time with our kids being in the US. But I could do 40/60. I would miss things like Chick-fil-A, a good steak, Amazon Prime, cheap financing, and violent crime.

Portugal is the leading candidate, but we are scoping out Italy and Spain in about a month.

Actually, my brother is considering moving to France, regardless of who is elected. Personally, my life is not significantly different under Biden than it was under Trump, Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush, or Reagan,

If you want dual citizenship, Spain doesn’t allow it.

You did, you said you’d move to Europe if the country continues its downward slide.

By the way, if liberal policies would make you leave US, going to Europe is like jumping out of the frying pan and into an inferno.

I don’t think our downward slide is due to specific policies…it’s society as a whole.

Agreed.

Would you prefer a mandate or ban or cultural change

The cultural change is more important then a ban

Fair enough. My advice is to turn off the news and get outside. We’re not being invaded at the souther border, hopefully you live in a town where people don’t shit on the sidewalk, etc.
