Per the article, the method Florida is now using is actually the most accurate.
Let’s wait a couple of weeks and see what things show. At most changing methods will just change where things show up in a timeline.

That is how deaths and testing should be reported.

The article kinda makes this point: if I’m looking at these data five years from now, trying to best understand the pandemic and what worked and what didn’t, I’d want the data by date of death. However, to change practices quietly in the middle of a surge makes them look like the deaths dropped before they did.

Another confounding factor may be that the delta surge is starting to peter out everywhere.

Understood, in a couple of weeks we will know if the changing of how it is reported actually meant anything.
