My favorite songs

Bobby Darin died from a heart condition, less than a year after he gave this performance, at the age of 37.

Well, these have to be among my favorites:

FYI, Lynn Anderson’s mother, Liz Anderson, was a talented songwriter. She wrote some of Merle Haggard’s biggest songs, among others.

This is an incredible song. Both Amy Speace and John Fullbright are amazing songwriters, usually separately. This is one of hers he joins in and the video adds another element.

FYI, this is my favorite thread!!

Two videos of John Raitt singing the Soliloquy from Carousel. One video is from 1958 and the other was from 1982. Unlike most singers he never lost his ability to sing well.

When I need a serious musical kick in the ass to get going, one or both of these Canned Heat songs hit the player. Rockin’ With the King features Little Richard:

I remember when my dad brought home our first hi-fi stereo console. It was in the early 60’s, but for some reason this was the first record we ever played on it. I can’t hear this song without being taken back to those days.

The Modern Jazz Quartet (MJQ), with Milt Jackson demonstrating why he was master of the vibes. Few sounds get to me like these and it was a joy to see it performed 2-3 times.

And a group from Russia recorded in Nashville making some fine music (featuring an excellent dobro player). Only made two CDs before heading home very shortly after we saw them.
