Jimtoo - You are correct. It is an interesting photo because Julie Andrews starred in the original Broadway production of My Fair Lady but was not selected for the movie version because they thought that Audrey Hepburn was better known as a movie star. Yet Julie Andrews was nominated for the movie Mary Poppins the same year Audrey Hepburn was nominated for the movie version of My Fair Lady and Julie Andrews won the academy award for best actress that year.
jimtoo - Since almost everyone in Hollywood has plastic surgery I am surprised that Jimmy Durante never had his nose done. I wonder if it is because he thought it might affect the quality of his voice.
Maybe. But he also worked the size of his nose into his comedy routines and became known for it. I donât know how much plastic surgery was done in Hollywood 70+ years ago.
jimtoo - I agree that Jimmy Duranteâs comedy routine is also a good possibility. Phyllis Diller was not nearly as funny after she had plastic surgery. The reason why I thought it might affect his voice is because Barbra Streisand never had plastic surgery.
I donât know how popular nose jobs were seventy years ago, but they were definitely done frequently for Hollywood stars during the sixties. On many occasions I almost didnât recognize an actor or actress in a very old movie because it was before they had their nose done.
At one time, Merle Haggard stated that one of his albums was literally made possible by a surgical procedure from his dentist. Everything between ear, nose, and throat are connected and shouldnât be messed with lightly.
weenut - You are correct. The other actress with Shirley Temple was a child actress who gained new popularity during the sixties as a character in a TV ad.
