Coffee revisited

I had “hammer toe” surgery today so is am at home for at least 2 weeks.
May be a good time to significantly cut back on my coffee since if I get grumpy I don’t take it out on anyone and can take a nap if needed.
Also because I can keep a more accurate measurement.

We’ll be watching the crime reports in your area closely.

I told my boss and a friend of mine I was going to take a couple of Oxi’s and a bourbon and start tweeting at one of our County Legislators.

Agreed. Any time you’re stressing out the body (which significant caffeine reduction will definitely do), it is best to be solo and free of obligation.

I’m 8 weeks sober on caffeine, but now I have to kick my remaining gremlin, the nicotine pouch. Looking at the upcoming holiday weekend to get through the three-day hump.

Then I’ll be truly drug free. Expecting better sleep and energy. I’ve definitely had good results from kicking caffeine, but I pretty much replaced one with the other, and nicotine causes its own brain chemistry problems impacting mood, energy, and sleep.

I forget why your quitting coffee. I’ve cut way back because I was drinking way too much all day. I’ll have a 10 ounce cup on my drive to work and maybe a home brewed iced coffee after work. I think I like the iced coffee better than hot.

After I got hit by a car they gave me some Oxycontin…No way in hell was I gonna take them

I got of cigarettes with a Chantix prescription. It works very well, although you can sometimes have some pretty wild dreams. My dreams were on the “fun” side, but a friends mother tried it and her dreams were horrifying. But if you’re dreams are fun, it works well to keep you away from nicotine

Sheesh! That sounds like a wild ride.

I have had some fairly vivid dreams on nicotine.

I won’t use a cessation aid. These pouches were largely designed to be a smoking cessation aid, like the nicorette gum.

I started doing them recreationally a couple years ago. Friends of mine were doing it to help them wean off dip, but now they (and myself) are addicted to the weaning aid.

It’ll be an unpleasant couple of weeks and take possibly an additional six weeks to normalize energy, mood, and sleep, but I’ll get through it.

My bigger concern is not gaining weight during withdrawal. I’ve been popping noncaloric oral fixes for 20 years now, between coffee and nicotine pouches. Now it’ll be tough not to reach for snacks, or worse alcohol.

I am not going to give it up 100%.
But I drink at least a pot + 2 cups on a daily basis and I just need to get down from that

My new puppy likes to sit on the deck at night with while I have a cigar and bourbon.
Can’t do that til I am off the pain meds though

The problem for me with nicotine replacement was that I seemed to be using MORE nicotine than I did when I smoked. A cigarette was a 5 minute shot of nicotine…a patch or gum was a constant source of nicotine, albeit a low dose. I tried vaping..while I smoked for 30 years and never coughed, vaping had me coughing my lungs up, so I figured something wasn’t too good for me.

I vaped when I drove to Texas years ago. When I smoked, I never smoked in my car, so if I wanted one, I had to stop somewhere, and usually decided against it. With a vape, I could vape the whole way from KC to Dallas…damn near overdosing on the nicotine. The Chantix worked well for me and I didn’t suffer any withdrawl. I’m trying to lose weight as my feet are feeling the effects of diabetes and I don’t think carrying around 255 pounds was helping. I’m down to 240 now and I’d like to get to 220…preferably 212.

It worked wonders for me too.

Fuck, you’ll have an 8 pack if you can do that!
During my time off for surgery I can’t do any cardio so I am just going to lift upper body. Probably won’t start until tomorrow at least tbough

When my wife had rotator cuff surgery, the docs gave her scripts for oxy and morphine. She took one tablet of morphine. That’s it. When she had a follow up visit, the docs wanted to write her another Rx for pain, which she declined because she told them there was no real pain. They were shocked. She had a similar experience with an earlier appendectomy.

Makes one wonder who is really at fault for some of the drug problems.

I am following docs orders for first 48 hours then I will almost certainly not take anymore.
One good thing is the pharmacy gave me the powder to destroy the unused pills

Agreed, that is the biggest downside of these products in my opinion. The only limitation on use is cost or perhaps acute symptoms.

That is why I realize now it was a mistake to buy these things to begin with, and I would never recommend anyone start.

As I mentioned above, nicotine alters brain chemistry, and that has downstream effects on mood, energy, sleep, and even digestion.

It is also addictive and difficult to quit due to withdrawal.

Nicotine is as addictive as heroin.

I’m supposed to see an orthopedist soon for a possible labrum tear. Guess I’ll find out.

My wife had a bone spur that caused a tear. They had to repair the tear and grind the spur off. They must have used good drugs durring the surgery because she told me the same story 4-5 times when i was driving her home.

Several years ago coming out of anesthesia on the way home my wife was laughing at me because she said it was like I was buzzed but getting sober instead of more drunk
