I believe this forum, “The Last Forum” came about because the old Clark Howard forum was down for awhile a few years ago. When Clark was revived I did read and post there once in awhile. Now it’s activity has slowed to a slow crawl. Any comments?
My best guess is, no politics threads. ![]()
People love to talk (and fight) about their god damn politics.
Take that away, and internet discussion is much less interesting.
IMO message boards get boring because people ask the same questions over and over, it may be interesting to new members but not for the people that have seen the questions 100 times.
the politics board was the most popular and pissed off the moderators the most. I haven’t been on th CH board in years.
It’s because we left.
I notice that some topics get a lot of views, but not many people seem to make comments.
An example…
When the moderators killed the politics boards, they didn’t realize how many of us offered non political advice in the other threads. But the politics board was the “draw”.
Same with talk shows.
I give Clark and his team a lot of credit for adjusting his content as time progressed. They seem to filter out the dummy questions and air the questions that supplement Clark’s advice, rather than force him to repeat the fundamentals over and over.
I listened to a recent Dave Ramsey clip the other day, and it was the same old dumbass questions about taking out interest free loans on the house, etc.
What’s funny is a few of the mods check their board out. Also find it funny they went to the same software that we did.
They felt politics chased people away. I don’t think they realized most of like like to talk politics and shit talk a bit but also gave advice. There were a few mods that were power hungry and wanted to be little dictators.
So I started this and said self moderate. The mods said we wouldn’t make it a year.
I agree with KC. I think every one of us posted elsewhere, usually with good info. I’ve participated in a board related to Detroit for many years. After awhile, the mod said was too much politics and prohibited political posts. The posts have declined to 4-5 new posts a day. I don’t think it is possible to fully discuss economic and financial matters without discussing politics in some manner. Same is true about a number of other issues.
I’d like to see more topics less focused on partisan politics. I’d like to see more discussion on movies and tv shows. I do like to chat about other things as well.
I like to talk technology and cars as well.
I agree about Dave, I still listen to Clark a few times a month, usually the Friday Clark Stinks and the Wes Moss podcast, I think on Tuesday or Wednesday. Dave’s daughter Rachel Cruze has a YouTube channel and gives everyday common sense and budgeting advice, a lot different than her dad.
I’ve found through various message boards that moderators tend to develop an exaggerated sense of self importance and grow to despise the non-moderator posters.
Underlying all their behavior is a preoccupation with everyone being nice and polite.
Usually this signals ulterior motives, as if they or the owners are trying to impress someone.
They did? At what point were they commenting regarding this board? That is hilarious.
I was in read only mode for about 2 years while staying motivated to pay off my home on the CH board. The politics section is what got me to register. ![]()
When we formed it. Mod5 was trying to convince us it was a waste of time.
The thing is you and sister make it interesting with opposing political views and reduce the echo chamber which is so boring / not much different then a Cowboys fan. I can’t stand them but that’s part of the allure
so even as you see when my posts are anything but smart, I am inspired by those who disagree and make it so much more fascinating
As winter mentioned, talking about movies can be interesting but sometimes our politics create our lense that we see the world!
One of my silly beefs is how I got a Subaru instead of a yellow Scion XB that I had my own reasons for loving because my wife didn’t like the toaster car.
Banter too. Abortion was a hot topic where no one would change each others mind but just imaging that one’s idea is better then another is why each person wanted to express their opinion.
Sometimes it wasn’t about being pro life or pro choice or even gradients of pro choice but also even secular reasons (non sky God) for being pro life. And learning about KC’s experience was very tragic but also interesting just to have different perspectives. Would love to be on a bike ride or have a beer anytime
Well, Mod5 was such a lying punk ass piece of shit, his/her opinion wouldn’t be worth a shit
Some tyrant objected to a non offensive opinion and I got censored. And thus became a rarity there.
Same with quecksilver and aquaswim. It was only several years later as smartpolitics that I reappeared. I had an interest in marine ecology
