I guy I know (wife’s coworkers husband) recently ghosted his wife. Straight up disappeared. Left his phone, credit cards, guns, etc. Withdrew some cash, took his truck and vanished. That has been nearly a year ago and no contact from him at all.
I don’t understand alimony, you’re an adult get a job and take care of yourself. Child support is different, it’s both parents responsibility to pay to raise their kid.
Yes. The problem with kids is that the courts often make women the default parent and screw men in the process.
Maybe we need mandatory paternal testing for kids prior to dad’s signing birth certificate. Maybe we need courts to default to 50/50 custody and child support unless other agreement is made. We should also end alimony or cap it.
I knew this couple that got divorced and the woman totally blew a great deal. The guys parents were loaded and offered to buy her a brand new townhouse, pay off her new Toyota minivan, let her have anything she wanted in the house they were living in plus $10k cash (this was around 2009). The agreement was the husband would keep the house and they would have 50/50 joint custody with no monthly child support. She originally agreed to it but at the last minute she changed her mind, she wanted that deal plus 25% of his income for child support. He told her to fuck off and she ended up getting nothing and 25% of a couple grand a month because he lost his job and took a sales job at a car dealer. He also still lived in the home they had together because his parents bought it and let him stay. He ended up with the kids a couple years later, she really went off the deep end.
Didn’t this happen a lot after the 9/11 attack ? I seem to recall there were several cases of people filing insurance claims on the death of loved ones only for them to turn up later.
It’s a state by state thing. Georgia doesn’t feel alimony is guaranteed and if awarded it’s typically 2 years in duration. In Florida alimony can be until your ex-wife gets remarried or collects SS at 70.
I had a similar situation, but I won’t bore you with the numbers. Within a few days of discovering her adultery I put together a deal that she accepted. When her father learned of the deal, he lawyered her up and we went to war. We went from a 3 month divorce to a 9 month divorce where she got about 100k less. I did have to pay 20k in additional legal fees, but that went down easy once I realized she fucked herself.
