Weird tax change

I start my taxes early and I’m noticing something I didn’t expect. I’m going from getting a small bit back (federal) to owing a couple grand at least. The only significant change: 2022 was the last year I got the “qualifying widower” status. Now, I’m “head of household.” I wouldn’t have expected such a difference.

Edit to add: I’m not finished yet, but looks like my standard deduction is about $5k less than last year.
