Want to have a greater chance of dying? Take the flu shot

Hey everyone, I have some fringe extremist ideas from Secretary RFK Jr to share.

Oops, wait a minute, this is actually a CBS report from an NIH study…

It found that as more seniors took the flu vax, flu deaths continued to climb.

Will lefties deny the science?

They have been for decades. I don’t foresee any changes.

I never got the flu shot until I was 65 because before then I thought the risks outweighed the benefits and many of my friends who had the shot got the flu anyway. However now that I am in my seventies I get the flu shot every year because at my age it is more dangerous to have the flu

On a similar note I have a friend that had the shots for shingles a while back and now has shingles anyway

A bit of hyperbole in the thread title, eh?

News flash… seniors die.

Mmmm, no. Not if you think there’s any association whatsoever with the huge increase in flu vax and the huge increase in flu deaths among seniors.

This thread somehow reminds me of this:

In reality not all vaccinations are equally important so I think it is wrong to say that all vaccinations are necessary and should be required, However, it is just as wrong to say no vaccinations are needed and the risks outweigh the benefits. I am old enough to remember the polio epidemic and knew people who were permanently disabled from that horrible disease

I also remember how proud my father was of his cousin Jonas Salk when he developed the Salk vaccination for polio during the middle fifties.

They’re definitely not all equally important. I’d encourage people to get the flu shot. The people not getting their kids the MMR vax are irresponsible fucks who are responsible for death now.

I have only gotten the flu shot probably 3 times since the mid 90s

You’re almost my age. In a few years, I’d suggest you take it more seriously. Flu can be bad for older people.

I’m combining it with my Covid shot now. The latter sucks, but the flu shot doesn’t have much effect on me, as far as I can tell.

I will have to watch it when i have time. The issue is the flu vaccine isn’t that great. People are more likely to get vaccinated when we have a bad flu going around. So I would suspect more vaccinated people would die for that reason.

@mcarley - I agree with you about the MMR vaccine which was not yet invented when I was growing up. Unfortunately I had all three of them and was so glad that my daughter was able to be protected from them by the MMR vaccine. With this in mind, it saddens me that these diseases which no longer existed for a few decades are now coming back

The Covid booster did more damage to me than Covid last time I took it.

Nah you just don’t want your beliefs challenged.

That’s a decent point. Perhaps more older folks with a host of other health conditions might be persuaded to get the vaccine, more healthy ones rolling the dice, with the death not vaccination-related or flu-related.

And, a fact that I’ve come to terms with the past couple of decades… old people tend to die more frequently, vaccinated or not.

Well those with health problems are more likely to get vaccinated. Since the vaccine varies in efficacy, I’m not shocked those who are vaccinated would die more often.

I’m at the age now where more and more friends are dying of old age. I know it’s only go to increase and then slow down.
