Vacation plans this year either Kansas City or Houston Any opinions?

A gal I used to date drove with a friend to Colorado to get a little…ahem…adult treats. They decided to drive back on the back roads and said that you really see a lot of amazing stuff off the interstate.

So…interstate trafficking?

We try to stay off the interstates except when necessary or we’re in a hurry. We did a week’s circle of Kansas in 2019 but the closest to we got to KC was Lawrence (wife had to see the Yarn Barn, which isn’t a barn). I may have to post some photos.

There is also the Negro League and Jazz Museum

She was worried (rightfully as it turns out) that if they were pulled over for speeding or another “violation” the Highway Patrol would do one of those two step stops…no issue with the traffic part but they go back and then look for marijuana. Much more likely to happen on the interstate than on 50. Now it’s just a dash across the border…making sure that you head EAST from any dispensary. Not sure if they are doing it today but back in the 90’s the KBI would park across the street from Gomers on 85th and watch for cars with Kansas tags buying alcohol, then bust them when they crossed the state line. I figured they would hang near dispensaries. I might have to stop in on my bike - no tags so they have no idea where I’m from and they aren’t likely to tail any of us long enough to get across the border.

well damn I’ll be taking home beer and I’ll have GA plates on the CX-5

And the funny thing is - the song “Kansas City” mentions 12th street and Vine. Vine doesn’t cross 12th street. It ends at 17th by the Charlie Parker statue

the bastion of liberalism in Kansas

OK So I’ll talk to wife tonight. KC you’re on we are looking to be there from the 10th of May until Friday the 17th. If she agrees. We are going to go over the pros of each spot

Next thing, you’ll tell me there’s no such place as South Detroit and I’ll have to question my whole 80s experience.

Sorry, all was for naught. In more than a half century there, that lyric line by Journey is the only time I heard such a thing. Actually, South Detroit is more likely to be Windsor.

If you are looking for a charming small town with a lot to do and good museums, I would recommend Mystic CT. I planned a three day vacation there for my extended family a few years ago and everyone had a great time.

“Mystic has become known for its quintessential New England charm, as well as being home to two of Connecticut’s most visited attracations: the Mystic Seaport and the Mystic Aquarium.”

Ex-NYer I have been there years ago. If we do the New England trip we may stop in

If you’re willing. Check out Astoria Oregon and Salem. Interesting history, decent food and you’d be mainly in red areas
