Upset time

There’s about to be a pretty big upset in the NFC. I think we can predict the AFC wins the SB.

Washington is essentially playing with house money. Nobody expected them to make it this far, and they had no pressure on them at all. Detroit, conversely, is the top seed with everybody else aiming for them. As the announcers pointed out, they are not accustomed to that role.

Also, early in the game when the Lions player started waiving the ball in the air and celebrating when he was a good ten yards away from the end zone, I got a sense that the Lions might be a bit too confident. I don’t care that there were no Washington players close to him or that he made it to the end zone. You don’t do crap like that. You keep going until you have scored, period. If you want to do some celebrations, you save that until you have scored.

That shit pisses me off.

And when defenders give up on the play.

And, more, though admittedly Campbell was only predicting a Vikings win when he said that.

Disappointing, but not real surprising, game. The Lions had some problems in their last 2-3 games of the season. The defensive injuries were catching up with them. I think they won the Vikings’ game because Darnold seemed to fold. The SF game seemed to seesaw with no one taking command. While I think Washington would have still won last night, Goff’s play changed a bit after the no-call head shot and sideline tenting, and he was toast after the interception TD.

Hi @jimtoo :I was rooting for the Lions to win last night and am sorry that they did not. SI had an article ranking the sixteen potential Super Bowl match-ups and they ranked a Bills - Lions Super Bowl as number one. I was hoping that would pan out and we could talk about our football teams.

On the positive side, it is nice to see the Commanders win under their new ownership and not Mister F- Dan Snyder. Josh Harris has totally transformed that organization since he took over.

Whenever I see players mugging and celebrating while the game is going on, I can’t help but think of the Chiefs/49ers super bowl where the 49er/s did this after scoring and going up by 10 with 11 minutes left to play

I am pretty sure that some Chief’s players did something similar while leading the Bengals in the AFC Championship the following year… When I saw it I shook my head and said they just jinxed themselves.

At least with that instance the play was over. Yesterday the Lions player was waving the ball in the air when he was a good ten yards away from the end zone. That is flat out stupid. NFL players today are apparently too young to have heard of Leon Lett.

Not just Leon Lett…there are several (even his year) of a runner dropping the ball just before the goal line. With almost any team these days, mugging like you’ve won, even if the play is over, isn’t the smartest thing to do.

Years ago, there used to be an excessive celebration penalty. Unfortunately they did away with that.

Broncos won a game that way this year. Other team dropped the ball on the one yard line.

I was thinking of the Leon Lett Thanksgiving game. Forgot about that play.

That play was just a brain fart. The play one year prior in the Super Bowl was him celebrating and hot-dogging before he had gotten to the end zone. He got exactly what he deserved on that play.

Your commentts yesterday about the Lions reminded me of the Broncos in the 90s. They looked great, but got overconfident and lost to Jacksonville. Then, they came back and won consecutive SBs.

Sorry, had to do it.

The Sports media is very fickle.A month ago they were saying Jared Goff was unstoppble…the best…nobody better. King of the world. Then, he’s reached the end of the line…he can’t handle pressure…what will Detroit do in the future.
