Top 100 sitcoms of all time

That’s exactly right…and never once in the show was his bigotry ever winning out. The person or group he was bigoted against always came out looking way better. The whole purpose was to show how ignorant bigots could be,.

Same thing with Blazing Saddles…my buddies and I saw it when it first came out and we were some of the few white faces in the audience. And the blacks in the audience laughed just hard as we did. Every bigoted character in that movie was made to be a fool and Clevon Little was smart and clever .

Bridge Maven seems to like All in the Family and she is Jewish, and Archie was very bigoted towards Jews in the show…but again…he was never the “hero” with his bigotry. The whole purpose was to show how foolish bigots were. That’s one of the things I find odd…Norman Lear was one of the most liberal people to walk the face of the earth but many liberals today are “offended” by his work.

And occasionally, Archie learned something.

Maybe I should watch that show. Not sure if Hulu has it.

I see clips of that, Jefferson’s, and Sanford and Son and none of those would be ok today.

I have Dish network and an over the air antenna. On Sunday evenings for 2 hours, All in the Family is on MeTV.[with an indoor antenna].

KC describes how most viewers of the show saw it when it first ran, and how Archie usually ended up, even in a totally different time than today… But others today now see it as glorifying racism and not seeing the humor and point of the show. As a society, we are losing the ability to laugh at ourselves and see the humor in life. That will not end well.

I love how it portrayed Archie and George as basically the same person, and they really were friends.
