An understandable mistake, from the audio.

It was a serious jump to false conclusions.
So…from the audio, a lot of people, including the announcer in the moment, thought they heard a racial slur. Are you saying they shouldn’t check into whether a fan is yelling racial slurs at their players? They checked, the guy had a plausible explanation, no harm done.
I wouldn’t have known what he was saying.
