crparrothead - WTG, you are correct. I initially learned the Pledge of Allegiance without those words. Then one day when I was in first grade my teacher said: "Starting today we are going to say the Pledge of Allegiance a little differently. The words “under God” will be added after one nation.

The first two 1954 things that came to mind for me was Flag Day and Brown v. Bd. Ed. I guessed Flag Day because I know it’s June 14. Off by just 77 years.

No, that was in 1966.

Another Hint - Not all trials pertain to the criminal justice system. There are other types of trials. The trials that started on April 26, 1954 took place in various elementary schools around the country and the kids who participated in them were called “P___ Pioneers”.I was one of those “P___ Pioneers”. My parents had to sign a consent form for me to participate in that trial. By the way, did you get your covid shot

Sounds like it may have been the Salk polio vaccine. I got one of those shots, as well as the Sabin sugar cube a year or two later.

WTG jimtoo! That was the date that the Salk polio vaccine trials began. A year later it was determined that the Salk polio vaccine was safe and effective so it received approval from the FDA at that time. Did you get a little pin that said “polio pioneer” when you received your polio shot? I probably should have saved mine

I don’t think so, but simply don’t remember. It was a scary time for a 6-7 year old, to find out someone you knew in first grade wasn’t there for second grade. Then to learn he was in an iron lung.
