My wife made sure it could be turned off before she bought her last car. It should default to being off unless you want it on.
I had a CX-70 Mazda as a loaner. It had it and I had no issue with it.
I had two Priuses that both did that for 10 years and never had any issues with it. BUT…if there is anything that is considered a regulation that can cause us to save gas or cut down pollution…it must be eliminated so we can drill baby drill. I’m waiting for regulations that make “rolling coal” a requirement for diesel pickups.;
It defaults to on in my wifes car and she hates it.
She has to remember to turn it off.
FOR FUCKS SAKE
Same here, it should always be off unless you choose to turn it on.
Another thing she doesn’t like is Auto Hold, but that you can turn off and it stays off.
In 10 years I’ve had zero problems. Has it been that problematic for you? I do have to say it’s kind of nice when we are riding in traffic and waiting in line with cars that we don’t have to smell their exhaust while we are stopped?
You are the exception.
My ex had a Prius for almost as long. The only issue I had was the first couple of times it did it and I didn’t know about it. After that, I never noticed.
As the article states, it is a participation trophy
My 10+ year old car has this feature and I’ve had zero issues with it. Since KC has had no issue with Toyotas and me with a Nissan made car, maybe the Japanese do it better. I follow a few car forums and have seen hardly any discussion of this, so I wonder if Zeldin is intentionally overstating his case.
I have seen complaints about this issue other places.
It is a “feel good” feature that does virtually nothing to combat pollution.
But, speaking of “overstating a case”, from the link.
“with idling linked to 40,000 deaths per year in the UK, according to the Royal College of Physicians.”
Idling cars responsible for 40k deaths per year!!!
GTFOOH
There are hacks to turn it off, but I’m waiting until the warranty period is over.
I have zero issues with my German car. I appreciate the feature.
Next time you drive to work…note the number of cars that are in a Starbuck’s drive thru or in line at a school to drop kids off. Then multiply that by 16,000 and countless thousands of schools and tell me we wouldn’t notice if all those cars were idling. While the air in LA ain’t the greatest, I remember a time where you couldn’t see the Hollywood sign from the smog.
Or stopping and starting 6 times in each line.
It is statistically irrelevant.
multiply that by 16,000 for starbucks alone. And there are 3 elementary schools around me with cars idling for blocks waiting to pick kids up. What was that saying from years ago ? Every little bit helps.
I am sure that the engine starting and stopping is really good.
Dumbass bureaucrats and their dumbass wet dreams of power.
There are about 100 reasons this is an Orwellian level stupid idea.
