About half the families in my neighborhood have a stay home parent and my wife stayed home until my son was in the third grade. Did you or your spouse stay home with your kids, at least for a while?
We came close about 15 years ago.
But it would have been me.
We almost did the same thing, my wife made more than me but she wanted to stay home and be a mom. She was also offered a huge promotion but we would have had to move to Dearborn Michigan and she’d be traveling a lot. The only reason my wife went back to work when she did was because it was at a school a few blocks from our home and she’d have the same days off as our son. Huge pay cut though.
My ex didn’t work since third trimester of her pregnancy with our first. After our last kid started going to school I suggested she get back out there and help the cause. Her response was that since our daughter had diabetes, she needed to be on call. I signed off on that even though the school had a full time nurse on staff.
Big mistake, lived paycheck to paycheck for years and she had no marketable skills when I found out we had an open marriage. Alimony and CS was brutal but divorce is like a Ferrari. It costs so much because it’s worth it.
