Ok are there redundancies at the state or federal level?
Well I sort of hi-jacked the thread and am looking at an overall picture. I just donât see the need and the resulting taxation that is caused by redundancies.
Absolutely!!
Most Federal Law Enforcement could be curtailed significantly.
Dept of Labor at the Fed level is pretty useless.
I could probably think of more.
Redundancies or not, the states get a LOT of money from the feds. And we hate taxes. If we slashed every program to the bone and stopped sending money to the states and let them do it themselves, the impact wouldnât be pretty. Without the federal tax, states will have to have more revenues or they will have to cut their programs drastically. Letâs say that farmers need to get their crops to market. Right now, itâs a 50 mile trip to get to a bridge that crosses a river. The state got some federal transportation funds and the state was going to augment that with some state transportation funds (redudancies). This would have built a bridge that would cut that from 50 miles to 5 miles. If we yank the federal fundsâŚthe state will have to find more SOMEWHERE in order to build that bridge.
So the voters send representatives to congress who vowed to cut taxes. They send legislators to the state who vowed to cut taxes. They elected county officials who vowed to cut taxes. Thatâs a lot of tax cutting. If the fed level reduces and the state level reduces and the local level reducesâŚwhere does the state get that money to build that bridge? At some point the votes will be asked to vote on a tax increase⌠How many folks do you see doing that?
Thats the point, why does the fed get that much money in the first place. Reduce the redundancies in services and let the states provide a lot of their own services.
Exactly, now help me convince brother KC.
That isnât what I am saying. I am saying that all these red states that want to abolish a state income tax rely on a lot of federal spending. FineâŚslash it. Iâm only saying that they will need. Even in glorious Texas and Florida - about 1/3 of their revenues come from the Federal government. Pull 1/3 of the revenues and will they still get by with no income tax? Because something will need to fill that void. Where do they get it?
You would have to restructure the entire tax code and seperate what States and Fed are responsible for.
Johnson County, KS public high school have a Graduation Rate of 92% , which is more than the Kansas average of 87%.
Demographic Data for Clark County, Kansas
Clark County Kansas
High school graduation rate 93.7% 91.4%
College graduation rate 30.4% 33.9%
clark county is better
Letâs get to it.
The federal government should take care of things like defense, securing our borders (lol), interstate highway system, protecting citizens constitutional rights and a few other things. Most things should be funded and handled by the states.
I am 100% in favor a Constitutional Convention.
And Clark county wonât thank Johnson county for funding their schools. They rely on other peoples money, then again, we are a red state and the other peoples money that WE spend is good. And yeah, when you are talking about a group of over half a million and another less than 2,000, that smaller group tends to do better.
Yeah that wasnât your point and you know it.
Which is the only way it all can be addressed and why it will likely never happen. The Feds measure their power and control by how much money they have to spend, and they spend it to get reelected.
What was my point? A lot of federal money for education went to Clark county. If we eliminate the state income tax and we eliminate the federal government funding state issues, where will they get their money? I said nothing about the quality or the graduation rateâŚI only asked where the money would come from in a no tax nirvana.
YepâŚitâs why Iowans bitch about Pelosi and her wasteful California spending, yet send Chuck Grassley back over and over and over again. The âenergy initiativesâ that Grassley and others have passed are the reason 90% of the gasoline sold has ethanol in it. And those folks in California point to the wasteful spending on corn in Iowa and bitch. I guess it all depends on whether "wasteful spendingâ (which damn near every Republican runs against) benefits your state.
I have been pushing for that for a decadeâŚthere are several things in the Constitution that need revisiting.
Thanks for ruining my dreams Dad!!!
