Recommendation or Requirement

When I went to the dentist today his dental assistant told me I had to have a complete set of x rays today. Even though I have a partial set of x rays every year it has been four years since my last full set

When I asked if I could just have a partial set this time she no because it is proper dental procedure to have a full set of X-rays every four years so I agreed In retrospect I am wondering is that really a requirement or just a recommendation. If I didn’t agree could this dentist refuse to treat me even though I been a patient of this dental practice for thirty years and my husband was also his patient while he was alive.

The dentist can’t require much of anything. Yeah, they could refuse to see you, but I doubt they would.

When she said no, she probably meant this is the strong recommendation, not that you must have it or gtfo.

Generally, I would follow the recommendations unless there’s a reason not to, but sometimes there is.

I don’t recall ever having had a “full set”. Normally it is bite wings about once a year.

Makes me wonder if they know you have adequate money and they want more.

Then I will tell the story of my new bride. She got butchered in children’s hospital; the excuse was polio. But the bottom line is she had gotten a wazoo of x-rays. Probably too many rads. And she is very sensitive about allowing un-necessary radiation. So, for example, when she visited a foot practitioner who wanted a whole bunch of them even before examining. That one never even touched her, and never will!

If you wonder why, ask! If they don’t have a decent answer, refuse!
