A little bit low on the approach - I started this video from where the dashcam starts (it’s ATC communications)
Spot just opened up for a Spirit airline pilot.
Retired pilot here. United was VERY low on the glide slope. So low they “skimmed” (my description) the top of a truck on the turnpike with their tires. Obviously very lucky no one got killed or badly injured. They came from Italy so a 10ish hour flight so maybe a little tired? But that’s no excuse because any flight over 8 hours requires a relief pilot so all three have rest time.
You always have a “pilot flying” (PF) and a “pilot monitoring” (PM). The PF job on approach is to fly the glide slope and localizer. That keeps you on an exact path to land in the touchdown zone on the centerline of the runway. The PM’s job is to monitor all the info in front of him. If the plane goes too high or too low he must call it out to the PF and the PF must respond. Obviously that communication broke down in this instance.
I could go on and on but I’ll leave it there for now.
That video title reads as if the bakery truck was landing.
Back in 2009, there was The Miracle on the Hudson. Now you have Miracle on the New Jersey Turnpike.
