Olympic Hockey

Interesting article about construction of the Olympic hockey arena. It is slightly smaller than an NHL rink and much smaller than an international or European rink.

I thought International Hockey had a standard sized rink larger than the NHL?

They do. NHL is 85x200 feet. International is 98x197 feet. The wider rink makes for a different game. I haven’t seen the rationale for the Olympic hybrid rink size, 85x197, just that it was approved by an international group. It will be interesting to see if the NHLPA makes any noise, or of the rink can even be finished in time.

This is another example of the IOC being one of the most inept and corrupt organizations in the world.

Here we go again, but they only had 7 years to prepare. With NHLers playing this Olympics, I wonder how they will react.

I wonder if someone made a mistake and nobody wanted to say anything.

That is almost 100% the reason.

I get using a standard other then the NHL, but this doesn’t seem to be any standard.

It has never been used before.
