I’m not a Republican and I don’t read many political books (I did read Ben Sasse’s first one and Amy Klobuchar’s), but this might be a good one.
I may put that on my audiobook queue
Stop, you’re kidding right?

I haven’t read a political book in years, they kind of just tell you what you want to hear.
Shocker isn’t it?
BTW, I’m not a Democrat either. I’m registered with no party preference. CA has idiotic jungle primaries.
We need more parties, I think everyone would agree except for the DNC and the RNC.
Agree, I think if we had a viable (non crazy) Green and Libertarian party we could get more pragmatism in legislation.
Proportional representation. Congress with 30-35% each Rs and Ds, the rest filled with Greens, Libertarians, Nationalists, Socialists, and everything else. You want to get anything done, you must build a multi-party coalition.
FYI, my daughters paper is published, but not public yet. If that makes sense.
It makes sense in academia-speak. Congrats.
It is through UMKC, fyi she was accepted to U of Illinois, Chicago for grad school.
Brains from her mom.
Smart ass attitude and defiant streak from her dad.
Good combo, since you let her live. My son picked up sarcasm and I wasn’t so sure.
Touch and go with my wife for a while.
Agreed. I am a mix of left and right politics. Neither party fits my views and my views are not unique. None of my views are radical except voting.
You think since most people think like me there would be a party that fits our views. There isn’t
I also agree. There are two main issues preventing that. First, is money to pay for advertising and getting signatures to get on the the primary or final ballot. Second, is getting on that ballot. Many states have established processes that make it difficult for someone not running for one of the two major parties to get on the primary ballot.
A lot of people don’t want to throw away their vote on a third party. Every election I’ve been able to vote in was the most important election in history, at least according to the two parties we have now.
Third party just ain’t gonna make it, and this link does a decent job of explaining why.

I think if we got rid of parties and let anybody who wanted to run get on a ballot and run and the top vote getter wins, no primaries. I don’t care if there are 20 candidates running - let them. Here in Kansas a rather popular pastor of a huge church (Church of the Resurrection) is contemplating a run for Senate as an independent. With the party system that we have, all this would do is insure that the worthless bobble head that we have (Roger Marshall) is easily reelected.
Comrade may think I’m extreme but my beliefs are pretty main stream. Reasonable taxes. Reasonable regulations that encourage competition. A tax system that rewards job creation in America. Regulations around stock buybacks and executive compensation, etc etc.
Nothing is far in any direction. I just want a government that protects the interest of the people and creates an environment for companies to do well but not at the expense of workers.
