“When you want to help people, you tell them the truth. When you want to help yourself, you tell them what they want to hear.” — Thomas Sowell

Honesty is often uncomfortable, but it is the highest form of respect.

Most people don’t want to hear the truth, they want to be told their terrible decisions aren’t their fault and it’s someone else’s fault. I believe in honesty and tough love.

The applies to both left and the right.

When people want to have an interesting discussion with varying perspectives on an issue, it only works well if both parties speak with poise and class. People who express their opinions in a hateful manner with fowl language are not taken seriously and look like idiots.

True, but sometimes you have to fight fire with fire.

“Most people don’t build wealth because they never learn this one simple truth:

Wealth isn’t about how much money you make—it’s about how much you keep.

I’ve met people making six figures who are drowning in debt, and I’ve met millionaires who never earned more than an average salary. The difference? The millionaires lived on less than they made, avoided debt like the plague, and invested consistently over time.

Money doesn’t fix money problems—behavior does. The sooner you stop trying to out-earn your bad habits, the sooner you’ll start building real wealth.”

This can be a useful perspective, but it is also useless and insulting to someone making $40K a year. When there’s literally no way to save, what are they to do?

Bullshit.

Here’s one of many real life examples.

Really? Do what everyone who has built wealth has done, improve your skills to get a better job, get a second job, get an education , learn a higher paying trade, cut expenses and a million other things. Complaining you’re not making enough does nothing to improve their life.

In your first few jobs did you earn a high paying middle class salary? I didn’t and no one I know did. Also a lot of people are financially irresponsible and make bad decisions like having a kid they can’t afford or just being lazy.

The goal isn’t to give your kids an easy life.

It’s to give them the tools to build a great one.

Many parents spend their time making sure their kids never struggle. They shield them from failure, hand them everything, and clear every obstacle out of their way. But life doesn’t work like that.

One day, your kids will leave your house and face the real world—a world that doesn’t hand out participation trophies. If they haven’t learned responsibility, discipline, and work ethic, they’re going to struggle. And if they don’t know how to handle money, they’re going to be broke.

That’s why I always say, “More is caught than taught.” Your kids are watching how you handle money. If they see you swipe a credit card every time you want something, they’ll think debt is normal. But if they watch you save, budget, and live below your means, they’ll learn how to win with money before they ever make their first paycheck.

The best thing you can do for your kids isn’t to make their life easy. It’s to teach them how to handle challenges, work hard, and make wise financial decisions. Because if you don’t teach them, the world will—and the world is broke.

Some friends of ours just sold their business for a couple of million dollars.
They could write a check for their kids college.
But thier youngest daughter worked her ass off to get a full ride academic scholarship.

Yep, the best things you can give your kids are a good work ethic and teach them personal responsibility. My son paid for his living expenses his junior and senior years of college and we had him take out a student loan for $20k his freshman year. He paid over half it off in less than a year after getting his big boy job, we paid the rest off after seeing he was serious about getting out of debt.

Never try to defend yourself against a narcissist. They already know you’re right, they just want you to go crazy trying to prove it.
