Just curious what you all do with the miles of cables we accumulate over the years. I probably have 30 or more pounds of them, heavy electric cables I used for connecting amps and speakers, landline telephone cables (and a trimline Princess phone c 1990), assorted types of USB of one type to another type, cable coax, etc.
We recently got rid of dozens of cables, connectors, adapters and other e-junk. I put everything in an empty printer paper box next to my garbage cans on pick up day, one of the scrappers must have grabbed it.
Good candidate to be put in a box out front, labeled “free to a good home.”
Or donated to a thrift store.
My wife makes me get rid of cables at least twice a year
Want some replacements?
I have a place near me that recycles all types of metals. Besides that, they will dispose of all these hazardous wastes.
We do a hazardous/electrical waste disposal twice a year.
Copper is a high value metal for recycling. This is why meth heads love stealing copper. Current spot price is $5/# with a scrap value of about $3.5-$4/# for stripped wire. Because of the high cost of copper, many wires like jumper cables are now coper coated aluminum which is absolute GARBAGE. To buy a decent set of pure copper jumper cables is well over $100 but probably closer to $150+ now. The coper coated aluminum wire will literally corrode and turn to dust in a couple of years.
Thanks for the tips. I checked with the local electronics recycler I’ve used. They did not take wiring last time I was there but now do. Away they go.
