Not knowing all of the nuts and bolts, this is an actual real idea to fix Social Security for the long run!!!
I’m a little unclear on the claim that it will not add to the debt. I mean, the $300B a year comes from somewhere, right?
I’ll have to think about that idea, although I likely wouldn’t to be a participant. I have some concerns about the government buying ownership interests in companies (i.e., stock). I need to see the details before deciding.

Agreed, but it is an idea that bears looking at.
The opposition in the article is basically complaining that it doesn’t repeat the previous failures.
Me either, but it could fix the problems by the time my grandkids were of age to collect.
This is my initial concern. What public companies are getting government investment in. Buying stocks is buying ownership of companies. The government could end up controlling companies. With each admiration maybe they change the investment because they don’t like coal, oil & gas, amazon, etc. The number of insider trading with congress is going to explode!
I personally think it is ripe to be manipulated and if the government wants to invest in something, they should buy back their bonds by running a surplus.
Fair enough criticism.
I prefer private accounts, but maybe this will get the ball rolling in that direction.

I would hope the investments would be in index funds. Anything narrower would be reckless and irresponsible due to the risk alone, to say nothing of the favoritism.
Therefore I doubt my hope will come true.
I’m cynical as hell on congress. Anything that can be fucked up, I assume will. These people are loathsome scumbags.
I wish they would round that into my account.
Maybe I should start up a defense contractor business and donate to these scumbags’ reelection campaigns.
