fingerprints are bad since gloves, etc can slow it down.

When you use tap-to-pay from your phone it generates a one-time number for the purchase. If this becomes the standard for POS transactions it will eliminate a lot of fraud. We are getting there…but still so many terminals in use that don’t have it…

No, the chip reader is different than “tap to pay”. First was swipe with the magnetic strip that we used for decades. Then the “chip” for better security that you inserted in the slot and left it there for a few seconds. And now the “tap to pay” which is quicker than the chip reader. So my gas station is still using the terribly old swipe system. They do make you enter your zip code for a little bit of security.
