Macular Degeneration

Last year my opthalmologist retired. Shortly before he retired I saw him for a routine eye exam and everything was fine.

Last week I saw the ophthalmologist in the practice who replaced him and found out that I now have early stage macular degeneration. Needless to say, it was a scary diagnosis.

I am following my doctors instructions on what to do to monitor it and do things to slow down the progression of the disease.

What is frustrating is that when I starting reading about this eye disease on the net some articles confirmed the advice he gave me and others contradict it

Is anyone knowledgeable about this age related eye condition?

Not all that knowledgeable about it, but my optometrist has told me that cataract surgery is on the horizon and she has me on two different eye drops to reduce the pressure in my eyes that can lead to macular degeneration. I am also taking lutein and zeaxanthin pills (over the counter) for the same purposeā€¦

My mom has been getting eye shots for that problem, for a couple of years at least. It has pretty much stopped the deterioration of sight in one eye, not as good in the other.
