I’ve done it twice. It’s one of the best organized rides I’ve done, but I only do Longview and Raintree lakes 32 mile route. I have heard that the others get a little hilly and the second year I did it they said that if you were feeling tired at Lakewood, do NOT attempt Jacomo because of some killer hills. The south side of Longview is where I went the fastest on a bicycle going down a long hill…49 mph. I won’t do that any more. But it’s a great ride
The Lee’s Summit police were at several bigger intersections to keep riders safe while crossing. That first year there was a drop dead gorgeous blonde cop directing traffic. I told the guy I was riding with that I’m tempted to run the light if it meant she would frisk me.
Thinking about doing it with my daughter this year.
She did the KC half marathon last year and wants to do a full this year.
We are also thinking of going down to Orlando to do the Margaritaville Half and 10K.
It’s a great ride. The short route around Longview is prety easy. The 32 mile ride and be a bit of a challenge if you aren’t used to a bike. You might be more familiar that me, but the hill around Lake Jacomo is Billy Goat Hill, and AI says:
Billy Goat Hill, located near Lake Jacomo in Missouri, is a steep, challenging road or path known to local cyclists and motorists, particularly noted for its difficulty during events like the Tour de Lakes. It is considered a difficult, steep incline that some riders opt to avoid. It is distinct from the, now closed, restaurant of the same name
She is more of a runner, so if we do it she will only do the 10 mile. I will make my decision depending on how I feel when the weather clears.
Here is what I did on a sunny day in February . The moving time was 2:37 but I left the house at 10:30 and didn’t get home until 3. IN the non moving time was pizza and beer and laughs.
Daughter and I are doing a couple of 5k’s next month (one 10k for her)
