I realize that most, if not all, of you are probably unaware of John Sinclair.
John Lennon wrote a song about him “It ain’t fair, John Sinclair, in the stir for breathing air.” Sinclair got ten years in a federal pen for selling 2 joints to an undercover officer, but the verdict was overturned by the appellate court for entrapment. Sinclair was the manager of the MC5 and a fixture in and around the music scene in Detroit in the late '60s and ‘70s and advocating the benefits of marijuana. If you were on the Wayne State campus then, as I was, you saw him a lot and likely spoke with him a few times. He even popped up as a New Orleans’ disc jockey in the music documentary Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World.
