It Just Not Happen

I noticed a fella cleaning snow on a park sidewalk across the street so I walked over and asked him how much he would charge to clean my snow off my sidewalk and driveway.

to my great surprise he said he would do it for free because he was just doing it for the exercise. I told him I wouldn’t let him do it for free but I would pay him what I’d paid others and so he said OK and started cleaning them it up.

When he finished I tried to give him $100 in cash and he refused.

That’s a first in my lifetime.

This snow was very light…It’s stilll work to shovel a driveway, but this one was about as “easy” as it gets. And you saved him a trip to the gym

“Service to others” is a tenet of many organized religions.

That is true but in this case he did not mention religion. He said he was doing it because he needed the exercise.

If he did in fact do it for religion he didn’t mention it as the reason he did it.

either way, I don’t expect it to happen again in my lifetime.

You’ve probably done something nice for someone in your lifetime and this was just payback. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m trying to think of something to say in response to your post.

You’re probably not thinking hard enough, everybody does nice things for others some time in their life.

Agreed.

We have a few groups of teens that shovel driveways and walks for $25-$30, most also offer a senior discount. They advertise on Facebook Marketplace and from what I can tell do a pretty good business, plus learn about business and making money.

Yeah, we had a teenager who did that and I called him this week and he’s not doing it anymore.
