I saw Billy Ocean last week for the second time in forty years

The first time I saw him was in the summer of 1986 when I was in college. He was in his thirties then. This past Monday I saw him with my wife and two kids. Like me, he is forty years older, though at seventy-six he is has a few years on me, and has slowed down a bit. Forty years ago he was younger and really put a lot of energy into his performance. I will give him credit in that while he has obviously slowed down, he has adjusted how he performs his hits so that they flow well at the slower pace.

As one example, his song “Loverboy” is a high energy song. If you want old performances on YouTube, you can see him really put everything into that song to the point where he is perspiring big-time. These days he goes at a slower pace but still delivers a great performance. I was expecting o see a performance that was below what he had done in his younger days, but I was pleasantly surprised at how he delivered.

I hope to have the chance to see him at least one more time. If not, thanks for the great show, Billy. We all love it.

I was just listening to him recently. Cool he is still active.

I saw BB King near the end and almost regretted it. He could hardly play, seemed to be almost a prop.

Saw Lorrie Morgan at the Opry when I was in Nashville. Not what she used to be.

We saw Tinsley Ellis last night. he does a solo, playing acoustic or steel guitar, with even a mandolin number to close the show. He was at our favorite venue, max about 160 people and no bad seats, which lends itself to great interaction with the artist and audience.. If you like amazing guitar work and old style blues with a twist, go see him.

My favorite song by Billy Ocean was this one.
