I haven’t gone that long. Thought it might have contributed to my a-fib, but doc was skeptical and info I can find suggests it’s not likely. I try to keep it to moderate.
I’m considering this, also looking for better sleep. Closest I’ve come is accidentally drinking decaf for 3 days, and I know it still has some caffeine.
I tried a while back but got a pretty nasty headache. I’ve contemplated mixing decaf and regular to “wean” myself off caffeine but cold turkey wasn’t fun at all. I may try mixing it again, but for now it’s still one of my vices.
I’ve cut way back on coffee over the last couple years and sometimes go a day or two with none and it doesn’t effect me. I used to drink at least 40 ounces a day, now I drink one cup of strong good coffee or an espresso.
I’m in a similar place. Can’t really confirm anywhere that caffeine is causing problems, but I suspect it.
I’ve found there is a ton of pro-caffeine bias in our culture, including in medicine. I think a lot of people are in denial about how powerful a drug this is.
What helped me decide to do this was reading/hearing from testimonials how dramatically people’s lives improved once they cut this stuff out completely.
Headache wasn’t terrible. I did have some general fogginess and lethargy, though.
They say the headaches occur due to the increased blood flow to the brain, since caffeine constricts the blood vessels.
My muscles have been more pumped up since quitting, likely due to this increased blood flow. I’m also drinking more water and eating more. Before, coffee would suppress my appetite and make me not want to eat or drink much.
3-10% of the caffeine in regular. To my mind that is negligible. I wouldn’t drink it in the evening, but I could probably down a pot of decaf early in the day and only have 100 mg in my system. 12 hours later it would be down to 25 mg.
A single cup of regular coffee (depending on size) can be 100-250 mg caffeine. Single shot of espresso 75 mg.
That is the real test in my opinion. If you can cut it for a few days and not miss it.
I was drinking a ton before like you were. It wasn’t uncommon for me to go through a pot or more a day. That suppressed my appetite quite a bit, and I wasn’t exercising much. Ultimately sapped my energy rather than increasing it.
I was thin, but I gave myself an addiction, along with chronic sleep and stress issues.
I did that several years ago. It wasn’t as hard as I Thought it would be. I will sometimes have one at lunch instead of a beer, but I don’t have any around the house.
I know I drink too much coffee though. the “cup” size on a coffee maker is about 6 ounces. But 99% of the “cups” that people use for coffee are at least 12 oz. But I can’t have caffeine after noon or I’ll be up all night. Because I have two "cups"in he morning, when we ride for coffee, I will either not have any or I will get a flavored mineral water.
