I learned something today

This was a popular song worldwide in the 60’s, and on the top list in the U.S although I, and others, didn’t understand a word of it. Today I came across it on Utube and now I know. Anyone else liked a popular song you didn’t understand the words?

They do narrate a translation, sort of. But I always loved this song. Maybe that explains why I found my Cuban neighbor girls to be so beautiful when I was a kid in Orlando in the 60’s

The music sounds kind of happy for what is a very sad song

Surprised me, I don’t think most anyone (like me) knew it was a sad song.

Nice song. I vaguely remember it but of course never knew meaning. Nice presentation with translation. Saves me asking Japan missionary what it means.

I generally prefer a little better interpretation, like Ooga Looga Mooska which means that I love you… We never heard this one until a few weeks ago at local concert hall, and new bride is actually from Alaska. Warning all American but politically incorrect

Here’s an older one, from 1958, later covered by Dean Martin, Al Martino and even Bobby Rydell (born Robert Ridarelli):

Found another I didn’t know the English words to but remember sitting on the hood of the car at the park, watching the cruisers drive by, with this blasting on the boombox.

I love to listen to Celine Dion’s closing song of the 2025 Paris Olympics, but I don’t understand a word of it.

The death of my best friend motivated me to update my “end of life” items. I told my daughter that when I die, I don’t want a funeral. If she wants to have a memorial service of some kind, I told her I would want this song played. To me it is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard (even without the vocals). And the translation is rather accurate for my life. Even if I am a despicable human being.

Loved the lyrics

In my fantasy there is a fair World,
where everyone lives in peace and honesty.
I dream of people who are free, like floating clouds,
and are filled with humanity in the depths of their souls.

In my fantasy I see a bright World
where even at night there is less darkness there.
I dream of souls who are always free,
just like floating clouds,
and are filled with humanity in the depths of their souls.

In my fantasy there is a warm wind,
wind that brings warmth into the city, like friends brings us warmth.
I dream of souls who are always free,
just like floating clouds,
and are filled with humanity in the depths of their souls.

Reminded me of this, back in the day.

This was one of the comments under this video.
I was that starving child in 1984 famine in a region called Tigray,Ethiopia when the aid arrived. I really appreciate everyone on this music video for saving our life. This the America I know

Here’s an oldie but goodie:

Here’s one of my favorites, for me it captures the spirit of a lot of the people of the Polynesian Triangle.

Here’s another song some didn’t know the words to although it’s in English. I laughed when Trump played it at his birthday parade, and just heard he played it at one of his speeches again.

Iz’s rendition of Over the Rainbow is truly great. May he rest in peace…

His earthly body had to be a tremendous burden for him… I’m sure he’s in a happier place now.
