I just cannot believe someone would think to write such an article, and not see the direct correlation to god. Personally, I see zero difference if santa is swapped out with god. Had a bit of a chuckle reading it this morning.
This reminds me of a good passage from P.J. O’Rourke’s Parliament of Whores, “Why God is a Republican and Santa Claus is a Democrat.”
I’m not hostile to either concept categorically. Depends on who is using them and how.
They can be used wisely and effectively as allegory…a way to reduce the complexity of life via narrative devices. On the contrary they can also be used unwisely and taken to illogical extremes.
