The author missed the point. He seemed to be concerned about the driving of an EV in winter and admitted he had little winter driving experience. That is not the concern about EVs. Given their weight, I would expect them to be as good or better than ICE vehicles. The issue with EVs in winter is the effect of winter driving on range. He really never even discussed that, instead only saying that cold weather also reduces ICE vehicle ranges. True, but not the 30-50% reduction I have seen reported with EVs.
I was working in my shop when it was bitter cold outside. I noticed that my battery tools struggled to operate when it was below zero. The ice cold batteries could not discharge power at the same rate.
I have owned an EV for 10 years and the range reduction for Winter in GA was about 15%. Granted that we are talking about temperatures in the 30s and not arctic conditions…
