The Heritage Foundation — the same think tank that wrote Project 2025 — just published a report arguing that competitive women’s sports should be scaled back and replaced with “group fitness classes, dance, yoga, recreational intramurals, hiking clubs, and the like.”
Their stated reason? Fertility. They argue elite women’s athletics make women less interested in having children.
The report explicitly argues that:
Intense athletic training harms women’s fertility,
Citing menstrual irregularities among elite female athletes,
And claiming women are “naturally” less suited for competitive sports and more oriented toward motherhood.
I invite any of those authors to shag ball from any any college women’s volleyball program and tell me they aren’t suited for competitive sports. They also went on to become mothers. And for what it’s worth, they all had periods during their playing years. The only “menstrual irregularity” they might have was that they were more likely to kick your ass when they were on their period.
I will start with, if true. I don’t trust AI slop.
But, if true, I disagree vehemently.
I have a daughter that competed competitively in cross country and swim, who now trains for 1/2 marathons to enhance he physical and mental health.
I also have 3 nieces who either have or are currently competing in college sports and another that will next year.
Sports is a great way to build self esteem, teamwork, leadership, etc.
I saw a few snippets that line up with what Sister’s quote said. As to whether that accurately reflects what the overall piece says, I have no idea. It is way too long winded and I have no desire or interest to read it now. From the way it looks, it might be good for some time when I am having trouble getting to sleep.
I read it at the heritage foundation website. They are complaining that schools have competitive sports for girls, and that takes away from male sports because of title lX.
Males are competitive, girls are worrier’s.
Pasted ..As one recent review of the literature holds, “evidence demonstrates higher rates of menstrual disturbance in elite athletes.”50
High-intensity exercise increases infertility;51
moderate exercise assists fertility more than any other approach to exercise assists it.
They think girls would more enjoy playing ping pong or just watching sports on TV.
It’s essentially an oped to conservatives. Because one conservative, or very conservative, person in a conservative group takes what I will characterize as an extreme viewpoint on one topic does not mean all conservatives share that viewpoint. Also, the fact that the same group offers other viewpoints on different topics does not mean all of their viewpoints are invalid.
I get that, but so far, the Heritage foundation has gotten everything they go after in project 2025.
That’s why I asked men on here how they felt about it. I don’t even watch sports but things like this about women set me off.
I haven’t fact checked that statement because the document was 900+ pages. I doubt they got everything, or even most things. And no, I don’t care what AI says.
