What do pelvic and prostate exams check for? Is it for hernias or pelvic floor dysfunction or cancer? Or is it supposed to check for minor things like muscle tone, pelvic obliquity, or enlarged prostate?
I got good medical care but it’s annoying having to see a PM&R and urologist to find out I have scoliosis, pelvic obliquity, and muscle tone abnormalities when a simple visit to the PCP could find it. Also, why should I need a prostate ultrasound? Just order a PSA test and put a finger up the butt.
Have we just become wusses where we need a chaperone to become available for something that takes less then 30 seconds?
And I’m satisfied with what I found out. Just felt with a little common sense, I’d find out faster and avoid unnecessary testing. Let’s make 100. And may it be healthy without dementia or heart disease
Prostate exams check for enlarged or otherwise abnormal feeling prostate. That together with an elevated PSA usually means at least a MRI or often a biopsy. Most men as they age have an enlarged prostate. Been going down this road for the past 4-5 years. A side note that is not really publicized is that the most common prostate cancer is not really dangerous. As my urologist said, you are more likely to die from being struck by lightening and dying that this type cancer killing you.
Another side note, a PSA test by itself doesn’t really signify anything, just a reason to go further with other exams.
Clark has the type of cancer that is very slow growing and not likely to spread outside the Prostrate. What he does is called “watchful waiting”. Myself, am not in that category.
