I have been on dsl. Dsl has been the best option for me in the country. Starlink has a promo for free rental in select areas. I signed up and it was delivered Christmas eve. I quickly set it up and it is amazing compared to dsl. If your on the fence, check out if it’s free rental in your area. It’s basically no risk to try.
I suspect that SpaceX is planning to go public and they want subscribers for ipo and that is why free equipment rental.
I have had google fiber for years…just the half gig. For about a month they were jacking with the lines in my back yard and it sometimes acts up. for years I had 500mb up and down, but this is what it is tonight
I’ve been on dsl for the last 14ish years when I moved to countryside. Fiber was run down my dirt road last spring but I don’t know how much longer till it’s actually available. I’ve been delaying starlink due to equipment cost but if it’s free rental I really have nothing to lose. If fiber is available next month then I switch and send the equipment back.
When I lived in the woods I tried over the years to get even “slow” DSL that “everyone” can get. Sorry Charlie it never happened. I moved to a wireless ISP. Dedicated, not cell, because there was insufficient cell coverage, and was paying a bundle for 3 mbps connection. Yep slower than DSL.
Took a move to get Commie Cast (xfinity) and we recently changed subscribers to get the new subscriber deal, $40/mo for “up to” 300 mbps, good for 5 years. Probably keep it a while longer
20 or so years ago, we signed up for Comcast when it first became available and the charge was $43/month forever. The was probably high for the service we were getting at the time, but it is still $43. Download varies and is about 600 Mbps today.
