Got Norton for a security package to use on my older desk top computer. It slowed it down to the point the computer pretty much didn’t work. Unistalled it. I thought. It keeps popping up with things such as “discount codes found!” Worst is that every morning it blocks pages on the news pages and it again slows down the computer. It puts up a separate page showing what it blocked. Once I delete that page, it works OK again. How do I once and forever get rid of Norton? When I do a search for Norton nothing shows up on the computer. Tried Web Safe (Safe Web?) and nothing. Frustrating. Thank in advance for any help.
Something didn’t uninstall correctly. Should be under add remove programs.
Sometimes you have to reboot first.
Another trick is reinstall then sort by date to uninstall
You might try the Norton Remover, which I used years ago. It got all of the little traces Norton left behind.
If you use Windows 7, 10 or 11, I would also download ccleaner, a free software. Read the web page. It removes temp and deleted files, and you can write over those up to 10 times. Run it as is and don’t fool around with driver update, registry, startup, updates, etc., unless you are absolutely sure you understand what you are doing and what they do. Just lick Custom Clean and it will list the programs and apps that the program will be cleaned. The first time you use will take a while, after subsequent use will be quicker.
I did go to Norton and used their software to uninstall, but it still showed up. Just now used the Custom Clean program and as soon as I opened my browser good ole’ Norton popped up asking if I wanted to install the latest program. Persistent little devil. I’ll go to their site again and see what I can find. On the plus side, computer seems to be running a bit better now so maybe Norton isn’t the only culprit.
Hey Pete…I always glance over to my left when riding down Lamar to see if I can find you.
Although not in this weather, I do still get out and run. Frequently see a pod bicycles and look over to see who it is.
I can remove it! Be done and never go back! Jump out of the micro$oft $quirrel cage! No more pestilence, and your old computer will be like new!
How? Get and install Linux! Format the disk while you are doing it. That away you won’t be tempted to use windoze again!
