I would bet big bucks the deck was attached to the house with lag screws instead of bolts as most codes require.
nope looks like sabotage. If you watch it you will these cutouts along the board where the hangers should be. When it falls they are not there nor the next section. The rest of the deck stays up. Smart crooks
