Credit Cards

I rarely use store credit cards because I prefer to use my regular credit cards when I shop at a store. Last week I received a letter from a store telling me that if I don’t use their store’s credit card within the next month they will make it inactive. Since I never use it anyway I decided to cancel that store’s credit card. Will my decision to cancel that store credit card have any effect on my almost perfect credit score.

Your credit score will probably dip a few points in the short-term but will then rebound. Big-picture, it won’t affect you at all.

I just allowed an unused credit card to be closed myself and my credit score is still above water. :grinning:

Maybe a little, but IMO there is no need for store or specialty cards. I have a couple Visa’s and a MasterCard we never use. I used to have the Costco Amex until they switched to Citi Visa. I have no debt and can’t see ever needing debt so I’m not to concerned about my credit score, except maybe because insurance looks at it. My credit score is over 800 the last time I checked.

Not by much, if at all. Since you weren’t using it, it probably wasn’t being counted in your credit mix anyway.

I have my credit frozen. I have knowingly applied for store cards that offer substantial discount for applying for their card. Knowing I will get denied, I spend the 1 minute doing the application. I have done this twice at Lowes and once at a clothing store.

That is funny as hell

I agree, pretty good idea and doesn’t effect your credit.

The system is what it is. May as well manipulate it.

Buying thousands at lowes in big purchase. They normally offer 10% off up to $500 for new credit card applicants. 10% off a $3,000 purchase is an easy $300 in your pocket. Then I get another 2% cash back on the credit card.
