Whining about GM layoffs.
UAW workers get paid roughly 3/4 of their pay when they are laid off.
One of the problems either the Big 3 is their agreement to the ludicrous lay off rules in their contracts.

Did that guy ever work outside academia or gov in his life?
Doubtful…just like Obama…
Reich should start his own car company where he takes a fair salary and doesnt buy back his own shares.
Weren’t those rules proposed from GM and not the union?
I have no idea, it has been in place for decades.
I think the current pay for layoffs began in the early 2000s. The strike fund has been around longer. GM has not been known for its management capabilities for some time.
My main point of the OP was to point out how stupid Uncle Bob is.
GM workers do not suffer under layoffs.
Sorry. I took the fork in the road.
No worries.
GM proposed it in the mid 80’s and Ford and Chrysler adopted it as a part of their negotions with the UAW, but that ws a company idea, not a union idea. It’s a moot point anyways
Hmm…as part of their bailout in 2009, that socialist Obama made them abolish the jobs bank. So a laid off GM worker gets unemployment. That’s not the same as the strike fund and could be considered “suffering” compared to what they had been making.
I have always blamed the Big 3 for the asinine contracts, the UAW just does what is best for their members.
I can’t find a link to what the current agreement pays for layoffs, and I am not going to try to read the entire contract, but layoffs do not put UAW workers in the poorhouse.
The current agreement pays nothing for layoffs. The jobs bank eneded in 2009 . The UAW tried to have Stellantis restore it, just this year, but it failed. They have a strike fund that pays $500 per week to employees laid off because of a strike, but I don’t believe they get anything if they are laid off for other reasons.
I agree, it’s easy to complain about something you’ve never done.
Or if hes grumpy about it, never buy a GM product.

No those were proposed by the union.
If anyone is curious. It’s called furlough when they get the 3/4. They’re not allowed to work anywhere during that time.
A layoff, is a layoff. They’re cut from payroll.
At least that’s how it use to work
