I’m working on a new novel and part of it is set in the 1980s, including when the Challenger exploded in 1986. One of the characters will be watching it live.
Who remembers? Anyone watch it live and realize some way in that something was wrong?
I was in HS at the time, and heard about it the same day, but didn’t watch live. I’ll find a video somewhere soon.
I was 5 years old. I was getting ready for my great grandpa’s funeral. We were at a motel 6 in Joplin Mo. I was watching it with my Uncle and siblings on a cabinet style TV that was on the floor. I was too young to really comprehend what really took place but it was memorable. Later at the funeral, everyone was talking about it.
I was working then and happened to be in D.C. for a meeting. I recall one of the attorney’s secretary or intern came into the meeting and told her boss. There was a limited discussion about it and then we moved on.
Does he go by Parrothead?
I remember that there had been so many it was not as big of a deal so we didn’t have a roll in TV in the classroom.
I was in English class (damn I hated that teacher), and someone came in the door and told everyone.
I think at sometime during the day we saw the news stories and replays of it.
I remember the teachers being frazzled and wheeling TV. I remember watching the shuttle exploding and the news reporter talking about it. I could remember this party falsely but I remember this showing a photo of Christie and talking about her. That was the mission where the teacher was on the shuttle
