I know some people will be against this and still want cash transactions, but I use my credit card or Google wallet 99% of the time and have never had a problem.

If someone is “unbanked”, do they have the disposable income for coffee shops, fast food, sporting events, or air travel?

Before I retired the county stopped issuing paychecks - they would either direct deposit or use a rechargeable debit card for the “unbanked”.

There are still a few places that will give a “cash discount”.
Another interesting thing.
Last week I had warranty work done on the poly-jacking on my driveway, they charge a little for the warranty work, they would have preferred a check rather than card, but I couldn’t find my checkbook.

Not many. They typically are small business. The cost to have the cash truck deliver and pickup deposits is about the same as credit card fees. No real savings unless the manager or owner is doing the bank runs.

My dad was store manager at Kmart in Houston in the 70’s. He had to make the cash deposits. The sawed off shotgun he has was bought at the Kmart that he worked at. He carried it with him while doing the deposits. Later, he worked for UPS. Back before mass credit cards, business would buy inventory on COD. He would show up and deliver packages and would often have $10,000+ in cash from COD. He would go to the local bank on his route and cash it in for check so he didn’t have so much cash on the truck.

Tell me about it!!!
