I bought an Audi 2025 q5 in October. I am now in the middle of a lemon buyback. Turns out the 2025 q5 has a lot of software defects.
In looking at the Mercedes glc, the bmw x5, an Audi 2026 q5 and Tesla y and a ford bronco
I have to say the Y is leading the park. For the money, it’s ahead of the others technology wise. The build quality is noticeably improved from my 2019 m3.
What would you buy? I took a friend, she hated Tesla but left mind blown when it drove us to the mall, parked then drove us back to the dealership and parked. She went from hating Tesla to say it was the only option
If you have a second car and it’s gas vehicle, or you have an alternative for long-range traveling I’d get the Tesla, hands down, no contest. With a home charging station, you’ll never go back, with the performance, cost per mile and convenience it’s addictive.
M3 I sold because I was traveling regularly over 1k a trip. The Tesla was a pain the the winter weather for such long trips. I bought an Audi A5. Loved it but wanted more cargo space. So I bought a q5. It lights up like a Christmas tree. It’s literally been in the shop more than I have had it.
My last car was a Nissan and it’s an 2008. I still have it in Florida.
I like the Tesla except for the Iran conflict but I do like the Bronco too
If the Iran conflict boils down in a couple more weeks, it’s a clear winner! I just added $50,000 to my stock portfolio with a couple of option contracts so I’m betting on a quick conclusion by the end of March
That’s a fair point. The only problem I see with the EV is how often it gets cold where you explore. I’m not sure if you ever traveled to the Canadian Rockies. I definitely think it’s a well designed vehicle even though I was a long time critic of the EV. I was more a critic for the hype aka zero emissions but I do love the technology they have even though I only own an Impreza and a CRV
What about a Lexus or a Toyota Highlander being on your list? If I had to choose between the Audi, Mercedes, and BMW, I’d pick the Mercedes
Like mcarley, we keep our vehicles a while, currently a 2011 and 2015 Infiniti. Nissan has only made Infinitis in Japan. These are great vehicles, but Nissan seems to be making some bad corporate decisions these days. My wife intends to drive her 2011 EX35 until it expires.
If I was in the market today, I would likely look first at Lexus. Most Lexus are made in Japan, but there are a couple models made in the US. They are always highly rated in auto publications. No Ford, GM or Stellantis vehicles appeal to me and they all also have had a rash of recalls. We have friends with Ford Escape Hybrids (‘23 & ‘24). They seem cheaply made to me and I think Ford has had issues with them.
Think they pay their workers shit in Mexico that is actually less than what my dads family made in the 1960s in absolute terms or 95% lower in inflation terms
Audi is offering me a 2026 q5 with an unknown discount but a loaner till it comes in. They can’t tell me the discount but they are locked up in ports right now
