Brobbs, caffeine update

How is it going?

Sunday I woke up and had a two cups of coffee.
Went and played golf, drank plenty of water and one beer. No other caffeine the rest of the day
Woke up Monday with a headache from hell.

My gf is out of town and I didn’t feel like making coffee.

Im say 6 and that’s when the headache kicked in. Im not trying to avoid caffeine. I just was too lazy to make coffee.

All my withdrawal symptoms are gone. My caffeine use hasn’t been zero, but dramatically reduced…approximately 1-2 cups of regular coffee per week (not per day).

I drink decaf almost every day for the ritual and the taste.

I plan to drink the good stuff when I need to, as long as the “need” is based on rare circumstances, not regular routine.

When I do have it now, I notice I am much more sensitive to it. Feel the alertness effects more.

Altogether it took me about a week to kick the initial wave of stiff lethargy. I feel like my sleep is still in the process of adjusting; that could take weeks or months.

Good for you.
I may try to reduce my intake, but not right now.

Just had one more thought and then I’ll give it a rest for a long while.

I notice that when I do drink caffeine, not only does a smaller amount have a stronger effect than before, but my body also tells me to stop drinking it now after consuming a reasonable amount (maybe 10-12 fl oz).

This morning I made a full pot, for me and my wife. I got about 12 oz down the hatch and warmed up my cup…but rapidly lost the desire to drink it, so I poured the rest out.

The occasion today was broken AC on a triple digit day. I allowed myself to indulge to help me with the stress.

Luckily all is well now. HVAC contractor came to the rescue.

I had been thinking about reducing my intake and this thread got me to work on it.

I am still drinking the same amount of coffee in the morning: one home-made latte when getting up followed by a mug while driving to work. However, whereas I used to drink a cup mid-day and then in the afternoon, I am now either drinking decaf or something else. Occasionally I will fill a mug half-way if I have to drive home during rush hour and want the boost, but aside from that I have managed to stick to my regimen.

Now, whether I can maintain that or not is another story.

Reducing caffeine has nothing to do with this but I also find I don’t finish the pot, often toss 2 or 3 cups. It’s a combination of being awake enough but really it’s that I have to leave for a ride or to the gym. And I used to drink a Monster every day at work, haven’t had one since I quit.

I drink 16 oz every morning and I feel fine. Rest of day is water and an occasional Sunjoy

That’s what I did, gradually cut back the amount I drank, now a strong black 8 ounces of coffee or a quad espresso is what I drink daily.
