Needed a bigger boat
The only chance of avoiding that was to steer into the wave. That may not have worked, but steering parallel to the wave had no chance.
I was wondering why they did that.
I had to watch it again, I thought it was abandoned by the time the wave hit, but there were still people on it.
Never had a big boat like that. Had a 12 foot aluminum boat with a a 5 and 1/2 horse motor. Used it on Lakes and ponds.
The Lakes at times can get kind of rough. Think it is the correct way, used to hit the waves at a 45 degree angle.
Did the same thing with a 15 foot sailboat that I had.
I wonder if it had lost power and couldn’t be steered.
The fact that there was a helicopter and another boat (rescue boat?) on the scene suggests that they may have already been identified as in distress.
Reading the comments on youtube - this is about 2 years old and the boat was stolen, although the rescuers weren’t aware of that at the time.
Perhaps the thieves didn’t know how to manage it.
That is what I was thinking, at the end there was a guy off the back looking to be rescued
