Biden appears to be on the same dementia track as my dad

Yes. This is why I did not push back against geez’s distraction.

Slamming Biden’s incoherence is underpinned with the presumption that Trump is superior.

As that clip demonstrated, Trump is often equally incoherent, just in his own unique way.

I shared in 2020 that I have seen dementia, up close and I thought neither candidate was exhibiting dementia. The quirks people point out with both are longstanding and hadn’t really been progressing that I could tell.

That said, I’m slightly less sure in 2024, also about both. I do still think it’s not a great idea for us to speculate based on often selectively edited videos and such (NY Post just got caught doing that.)

All that said, I think it makes perfect sense to be concerned about the fact that both of our major party candidates are 78-81. Dementia is different, but some cognitive decline at that age is normal, as is reduced energy level. But neither party seemed willing to move to someone younger, so these are our choices, other than voting 3rd party.

Yes, the free world does look up to Biden one hell of a lot more respectfully than they ever did Trump. And they will continue to do so. He has brought the free world much closer together in this 4 years. All of the free/democratic world is shaking to their foundations with the thought that Trump might get a second term. A term when he Would weaken the free world and knuckle down to his natural buddies, Putin, Kim, Orban et al. Our closest allies give no indication that they think Biden is senile or catatonic. Where do you get your nonsensical opinions from?

A doctor who practices self-diagnosis has a fool for a patient. Especially, a failed one.

I am not a physician so I am not in a position to determine what is exactly wrong with Biden. However it is obvious that he has some type of cognitive impairment that has an adverse effect on his ability to be a competent president. It is sad that his wife Jill loves the prestige of being the wife of a president more than she loves her husband.

The main difference is Trump used to be very coherent. Biden never has been. As such biden is the same as always.

I am not sure if Trump has actually declined or if this speech pattern is intentional.

Not self diagnosing. Just did my yearly physical.

I have not failed, lol. Not sure where you get that I failed. I have a license. I just make more money doing other things and don’t have to listen to liberals whine about their life choices all day.

I think worrying that either will make it through their term is a fair concern due to age and life expectancy.

I feel the others are just personal attacks hiding as concern for their mental status. I am not a fan of that.

Why would they? They are able to use that to their advantage. He keeps doing what they want and handing them money.

he was talking about the bs of electrify everything https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMNMt5FdVwg

As long as we are on the subject:

And see this as trying to get upset over something trivial.

Most people don’t know all the test names for obscure medical test. I bet the majority of doctors don’t know the names of them.

For some reason we expect the president to be flawless and know everything.

That isn’t realistic.

I don’t think that really matters during election season. The candidates’ current behavior is the best evidence we have as to their current suitability to be in the most powerful seat in the world.

Whether they were better in the past seems to be a distant secondary consideration, if at all.

Even if it’s intentional, it’s difficult to defend. The most generous phrase I can think of to describe it is incoherent rambling, and that is not a good look.

This doesn’t break my plans to vote for Trump this fall, but that decision rests largely on the fact that the Democrats have flagrantly crossed an important line, which is prosecuting a political rival, and they couldn’t even come up with anything reasonable or sensible.

Even the left wing lawyer nerds have difficulty explaining it, let alone the lay lefty citizens, who appear to be mindlessly trusting the same justice system they malign when the accused is a racial minority.

Yeah, they have to know the name of the leader of Uzbekistan-bekistan

It’s just an unfair and stupid standard. I can tell you the leaders of most countries. Neither should the president.

It’s just not that important to us or the president.

People just want to find a way to seem superior to the president. It’s weird.

That’s a mess. My experience with dad, while he was still talking was that he usually made sense. He might repeat every 5 minutes but he made sense when he talked. I don’t know enough from a medical point of view to know what speech means as far as dementia goes.

I’ve seen something similar with my grandmother. She is coherent, but she will forget having told a story and repeat it just 5 or 10 minutes later.

I’m sure a psychologist or other professional would have a more specific and nuanced opinion, but the word dementia doesn’t feel quite right at this stage.

The term at that stage is “mild cognitive impairment.” Short-term memory goes first, so repetition is common. Or, asking the same questions over and over.

Dementia is a fuzzy term, but it’s used at somewhat middle or later stages. It’s somewhat arbitrary, but typically, a score below 24 on the MMSE (or MOCA, the one Trump took a few years ago) would indicate dementia.

Yeah, your grandmother would not be diagnosed with dementia at this stage, but rather MCI. For context, here are my wife’s MMSE scores, often taken about 14 months apart:

August 2013: 30/30
November 2014 (four months after her diagnosis): 30
January 2016: 21
March 2017: 18
July 2018: 5
