WTF could be the legal standard being used here?

A Texas Tech donor is also a donor to the Judge?

Good question. The judge graduated from law school in 1976 and and retired in 2012, which makes him 74-76 years old. He is what is called a visiting judge in that state district court, probably taking overflow cases or cases conflicting other judges.

For him to even take the case, he would have to find that some law or right was being violated by the NCAA. He issued a temporary restraining order, which will very likely be overturned or expire and die.

Looks like the problem is going to solve itself.
